Idea dari Dapur: Permulaan Liquid Paper

Satu hari, Bette mendapat ilham daripada pelukis yang menutup kesilapan mereka dengan cat. Menggunakan mesin pengisar di dapurnya, dia mencipta sejenis cecair putih likat yang boleh digunakan untuk menutup kesilapan menaip. Dia mengisi cecair itu ke dalam botol kecil dan menggunakannya di pejabat.

Kaedah ini berjaya dan menarik perhatian rakan-rakan pejabatnya, yang kemudian mula menempah botol ciptaan Bette. Menyedari potensi besar produk ini, Bette menamakannya sebagai “Mistake Out” sebelum menukar nama kepada “Liquid Paper”.

Pada tahun 1956, Bette menubuhkan syarikat “Mistake Out Company” dan mula menjual produk ciptaannya secara kecil-kecilan. Permintaan yang semakin meningkat menyebabkan dia kehilangan pekerjaan sebagai setiausaha, namun itu menjadi titik tolak kejayaannya.

Menjelang tahun 1968, syarikatnya berkembang pesat dengan pejabat dan kilang sendiri. Pada tahun 1976, Liquid Paper Corporation berjaya menjual lebih 25 juta botol setahun dan menghasilkan keuntungan jutaan dolar.

Pada tahun 1980, Bette menjual syarikatnya kepada Gillette Corporation dengan harga 47.5 juta dolar. Namun, enam bulan selepas itu, beliau meninggal dunia.

Legasi Bette terus hidup, dan hingga ke hari ini, Liquid Paper masih digunakan di seluruh dunia sebagai penyelesaian mudah untuk membetulkan kesilapan dalam penulisan.
