Namun, disebabkan oleh sifat jenayah yang tersembunyi dan kesukaran mangsa untuk membuat laporan, jumlah sebenar insiden cabul kehormatan dianggarkan jauh lebih tinggi.

Dalam satu kajian pada tahun 2018, 70% wanita dan 32% lelaki melaporkan pengalaman gangguan seksual di dalam kereta api sekurang-kurangnya sekali dalam hidup mereka, dan 50% gadis muda dalam seragam sekolah mengaku pernah mengalami gangguan seksual atau komen yang tidak senonoh semasa di tempat awam.
